The second tale is one about childhood greed and was told to me by my long-time friend, Alyce. It seems that one Christmas, when she was ten, she fretted about whether she wanted a pair of roller skates or a pair of ice skates for Christmas.

an Advent Calendar the size of a cupboard, containing only things made in Wisconsin. We enjoyed fudge, chocolate, popcorn, honey, and even small, vacuum-packed smoked sausages.

My favorite catalogue was Spiegels, because I found it less overwhelming and easier to navigate. I could whiz through the pages to find toys for kids my age, and its lighter weight allowed me to take it to my room for more leisurely browsing.

I was never wildly enthusiastic about coloring, but I did plenty of it, especially during the winter months when it was too cold to do much outside.

In 1950’s southern Indiana, Thanksgiving was a “no fault” holiday for kids.  At least for THIS kid.

When was the last time you sat on a bench and admired the view? I have a feeling I know your answer and mine is the same. Even in retirement, we seem to have these “pressing” commitments and errands.

In my Old School past, we were all urged to vote NO MATTER HOW.  Let’s hope we Americans return to that attitude.
